People with learning disabilities in Barnet have been getting ito the Jubilee spirit at events across the borough.

Service users at three Your Choice Barnet schemes – Rosa Morison, Flower Lane Autism Service and Barnet Supported Living Service – celebrated the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with themed dress up, food and music.

Services users and their parents and carers face daily challenges to every day duties that a lot of people take for granted. Many were limited by accessibility to joining in the Jubilee street party events so Your Choice Barnet had the benefit of bringing the parties to them over the four day weekend.

Acting Manager of Rosa Morison Day Service, Richard Buckman, said: “Our client group would not have been able to access the West End celebrations. They have profound and multiple learning disabilities and in reality they can’t do many of the things other people have access to. For instance it is very difficult for them to use the tube and the facilities are not there to support their personal care needs.

“We made the Queen’s Jubilee one to remember for them with traditional English food including fish and chips, red, white and blue attire and themed music that we all really enjoyed.”

Your Choice Barnet Chief Executive Tracey Lees, said: “It’s great to see our service users getting to party along with the rest of the country. We strive to give service users more choice and control over the services they want, when and where they want it.

“We’re proud to involve them in all that we do including events that we can all take pleasure from.”
