Staff and service users at Flower Lane marked Pancake Day recently by mixing a giant batch of pancake batter for all to enjoy.
Traditionally in the Christian calendar, Shrove Tuesday marked the start of a period of abstinence for Lent. This meant using up the remaining ingredients that remained in the pantry/larder/cupboards.
Thus the the period of Lent begins which lasts for 47 days until Easter Sunday. But even without the religious aspect, Pancake Day has become an extremely popular national past time for all which breaks up the final ‘dog-days’ of winter in February.
As pictured, staff at Flower Lane ended up cooking a large batch of pancakes, which service users really enjoyed!
Marking cultural, religious and national days fits in perfectly with the ethos at Flower Lane, which provides specialist support to people on the autism spectrum. It helps service users feel a part of the wider community, so things like Pancake Day have many benefits for them!
