Learning Disability Week is all about helping transform the services that people with disabilities receive.
As well as shining a light to everyone on the issues and challenges people living with a disability experience.
Last year, the theme of Learning Disability Week was employment. Mencap the charity, who lead on Learning Disability Week, have chosen 2018’s theme to be health.
According to Mencap, 1200 with a learning disability sadly die, avoidably, in hospital every year. They have started a campaign, Treat Me Well, calling on NHS staff to make reasonable adjustments for people with a learning disability. This can help save lives.
Closer to home in Barnet, Your Choice’s CommunitySpace is holding a number of events as part of Learning Disability Week 2018:
• Healthy Living Eating – Chair Aerobics
• Tai Chi ‘taster’ class
• Self-esteem help
• ‘It’s Good to Work’ session
• Healthy lunch
• Group Walk
Most of these activities will take place on Wednesday 20th June. Please contact Nikki Barnett if you have a client you think might benefit or need more information. nikki.barnett@yourchoicebarnet.org or call 020 8359 3202.
