The event was organised to commemorate the historic voyage of the Windrush and honour the lasting legacy of the generation that answered the UK’s call to rebuild.
Residents of the care home were treated to an afternoon filled with Caribbean music and food, tasty refreshments, and a lively atmosphere. The celebration was regarded as a sweeping success, making it an unforgettable experience for all involved.

One resident’s wife said she wanted to say thank you for such a wonderful afternoon in the Garden Lounge remembering the Windrush Generation.
“The entertainment was lively and great fun, and everyone present thoroughly enjoyed themselves,” she said. “It was such a lovely afternoon seeing everyone joining in, partaking with the music, and singing along, but most importantly, just being so happy as well as enjoying the delicious refreshments being served.
“The music was really jolly and a whole lot of fun which created a perfect party atmosphere, a good time was had by everyone. I would like to sincerely thank Meadowside for all the effort put into making this party so extra special and meaningful.”
Testament to sense of community
The Windrush Generation refers to the thousands of individuals who immigrated to the United Kingdom from the Caribbean islands between 1948 and 1971. These individuals played a pivotal role in rebuilding post-war Britain and contributed significantly to the nation’s economy, public services, and cultural fabric.
Their arrival marked a significant chapter in British history, emphasising the importance of diversity, multiculturalism, and unity.

“We’re delighted to have been able to host such a celebration in honour of the Windrush Generation. Events like these are a testament to the strong sense of community we foster at Meadowside.”
