Dementia Action Week in an annual campaign organised by the Alzheimer’s Society that runs from 19-25 May. The campaign aims to raise awareness about dementia and encourage timely diagnosis.
Did you know there are currently 4,300 Barnet residents living with dementia, and a growing older population, creating a dementia friendly borough is a priority in Barnet. Fortunately, in the borough there is support available, for example Your Choice Barnet are proud to present both Dell Field Court and Meadowside care homes that are dementia friendly. Currently there a wide range of options available for those considering moving into a care home, see below:
Your Choice Barnet has been working closely with Age UK Barnet and their partners and will be present at some of the local events being held in Barnet and Finchley. Some of the partners including the council’s Prevention and Wellness team and Barnet Carers’ Centre. The events being held in in borough provide an opportunity to learn more about dementia, find support for those living with dementia and their carers and encourage everyone to act on dementia.
There are many ways you can get yourself involved too, see below:
- Join a drop-in information session to find out about dementia and the support available in Barnet, and explore more dementia friendly events taking place during the week.
- Sign up for FREE Understanding Dementia Training – online session for anyone interested to learn more about dementia.
- Find local support and opportunities for people living with dementia and their carers.
- Learn some simple lifestyle changes that could help prevent dementia from developing in future and signs to look out for to help seek a diagnosis and early treatment
