Tom Beisty
My daughter Clare is a service user at Community Space in Edgware and that is how I first heard of QuAG.
I liked the concept of their role in auditing, advancing and improving services for people with learning and physical disabilities in the Borough – especially during this last few years of somewhat radical change – I believe they have a vital role in this for many years to come and I am happy to help in any way I can.
I ran a construction and development company for over 25 years in London.
I was a founder member of ‘the Safestart Foundation’ – set up in 1989 to alleviate poverty and homelessness among new arrivals to London.
I was Chairman of Safestart until 2008. I am still a Trustee and on the management board of that organisation.
I have no formal education but I do have experience of managing business and committee meetings down the years. I helped steer Safestart through BS standards registration procedures to enable them to successfully qualify for UK & Irish Government and European funding.
I am aware of the importance of team building and the value of every individuals contribution – so I will try to make our work an inclusive successful and enjoyable rewarding experience for everyone.
Janet Solomoms
I have been involved in services for people with learning disabilities since my son was born in 1972 with severe and multiple learning disabilities. Originally qualifying as a Probation Officer, and then a social worker, I have worked in the Voluntary Sector and subsequently in Social Services for the London Borough of Barnet in a variety of roles ranging from setting up a Family Link Scheme to support families of children with disabilities to finally retiring as Commissioning Manager for Services for People with Learning Disabilities and then Partnership Manager which entailed working closely with the local Health Authority. Since retirement I have been a trustee of voluntary organisations, taught social work students, worked as a consultant and am currently a guide at the British Museum.
In all of my roles I have learned how important it is to work with service users and carers to ensure that services achieve high quality standards. I have therefore appreciated the chance to do this through membership of the QuAG group for YCB, and would encourage all parents and carers to take up this opportunity when possible.
Takafumi Hirakawa
My daughter has been a service user of Rosa Morison and Valley Way. But I did not know about YCB’s operations so much. I thought it’s a good opportunity for me to understand YCB’s operations widely and deeply through monitoring and reviewing various services/sites as a member of QuAG. I retired from the work 7 years ago. I became familiar with easy-going life. I thought that I would be able to have a good tension by carrying out QuAG member’s role as one of social participation.
Ken Allen
I joined the group to ensure that all service users receive what they are entitled to, what they should be getting, and all this in a respectful way.
